Types of Facial Injuries
Facial trauma can occur from a variety of scenarios, including car accidents, interpersonal altercations, or even work-related injuries. A few of the most common facial injuries we treat include the following:
- Dental injuries. While a dentist typically corrects minor tooth damage, an oral surgeon is usually called upon to treat teeth that have been completely knocked out or damaged beneath the surface of the gums. Dental implants are a common procedure used to replace missing or damaged teeth.
- Facial cuts and lacerations. The use of sutures or surgical stitches is a common technique used to heal injuries to the skin and inside the mouth. Sutures prevent extensive scarring and allow our oral surgeons to check surrounding areas of the mouth in case of further oral complications.
- Bone injuries. Facial bone injuries are different from bone fractures throughout other parts of the body. Our oral surgeons are experts in the use of very small screws, plates, and wires to reposition fractured facial bones. Fractured jaws and damaged cheekbones and eye sockets are just a few of the most common bone injuries which require this kind of treatment.
