About Dr. Wilcox
Dr. Gary H. Wilcox Jr. grew up in Reno, Nevada, and became inspired to study dentistry in high school. He attended Montana State University and the University of Nevada, Reno for his undergraduate studies. Between schools, he worked as a fly fishing guide in Alaska before returning home to Reno, Nevada, to finish his degree and go into business with his dad building custom homes. He began studying general dentistry in Nevada as he began his pre-requisite courses.
During his second year of dental school, there was an oral surgeon who demonstrated unique cases of orthognathic and war trauma cases. These cases were an influence to Dr. Wilcox as he chose to pursue a career in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Once completing dental school to receive his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry, he enrolled in an oral and maxillofacial surgical residency program. He performs trauma and emergency oral care at the University Hospital Medical Center where he completed his residency training, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, and both Mercy Hospital Anderson and Mercy Hospital West.
He attended both Montana State University and the University of Nevada, Reno for his undergraduate years. Dr. Wilcox received a degree in Business Management from the University of Nevada, Reno. He began to study dentistry at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and completed his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry in 2010. He extended his studies and pursued a surgical residency program after finishing dental school.
To complete his training in oral and maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Wilcox completed his surgical residency program for a minimum of four years at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He graduated from the program in 2014. Attending the surgical residency program, Dr. Wilcox gained years of extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with the administration of anesthesia, performing oral surgery techniques including dental implants, wisdom teeth, and dental prosthetic appliances.
As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Wilcox became a board-certified diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in 2016. He believes in expanding his knowledge of oral surgery and the procedures that are life-changing to patients who are unable to smile with confidence. Dr. Wilcox earned certifications from the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Cincinnati Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and more.
Hobbies and Interests
Outside of the practice working with Dr. Cassidy and Dr. Pieper, he spends time with his wife and four children. Dr. Wilcox enjoys outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, beekeeping, flying lessons, and fly fishing.
